Taking a Stand

While the last few months have been focused on COVID-19 and social distancing, we are now in the midst of a passionate and long overdue movement for social justice. We find ourselves at an intersection between concerns for our individual health and the health of our nation. We know that unless we address the systemic-racism that exists, the pain over the racial injustices--not only of our past but our present--cannot be healed. And change will not occur.

We share in the loss of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd; we grieve as a community and a nation. Yet, as we see the streets across our country--and abroad--filled with all races standing together in unity we know that change is not just a "hope" but it is standing before us. Cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead said: All social change comes from the passion of individuals. No statement could be truer or more relevant to today. We understand the emotion: the grief, and the anger, and the fight for justice and equality that fueled the civil rights movement. We are in a historical time for racial equality and we each have a role to play.

At Schroeder Resources we stand in unity with our brothers and sisters of color, condemning any form of racism. We understand that our words and our actions must come together for true change to occur. You may have seen the excellent piece from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits that offers many ways to act and take a stand. The nonprofit community has always been one to band together and lead the way. We thank you for your work to ensure racial equity, access, participation, and equal rights to African American and minorities in our local community. We stand ready to collaborate and join conversations where we can provide value and resources to your efforts.
